Daytona Beach, FL

Daytona Beach local weather

Daytona Beach is one of Florida's popular coastal cities that benefit from a southern latitude and a Gulfstream micro-climate, where the ocean tempers the heat and cold depending on the season. With the year averaging 70 degrees F, it's no wonder so many people choose to visit Daytona Beach year round.

Winter

In winter, the temperate climate is ideal for watching the action on the Speedway where mid-day temperatures average in the upper 60s. Breezes off the coast warm the air with the aide of the Gulfstream thus winters are mild with rare days going below 40 degrees. About once or twice a decade the area is hit with a mid 20 degree reading in the depths of winter! Coupled with the rain gauges which are kept quite dry during the winter months, Daytona Beach is an ideal retreat for snowbirds and young people alike. Almost anytime during the year is an ideal time for boating, fishing and sunbathing.

Spring

Spring can compare to summer months in northern climates, where air temps and water temperatures are usually comfortable beginning in April, which can be ideal for snorkeling, scuba diving and other water sports. Outdoor temps are wonderfully pleasant for sightseeing, day-trips to the Orlando parks, visiting historic locations and exploring Florida's natural wonders.

Summer

Many may assume summers in Daytona Beach are unbearable. To the contrary, the ocean moderates the temperatures, highs and lows normally vary by less than 20 degrees in a day. Although with summer heat and ocean breezes comes high humidity, so expect to spend a lot of time splashing down and enjoying the beaches. If you want to work on a summer tan, thunderstorms during this season usually drop their rain in the late afternoon and pass on, leaving most of the day sunny.

Autumn

One of the area's most comfortable times of year, Daytona Beach stays in a summer mode through much of the season. Warm days usually remain through November with beach access a reasonable expectation through much of the season and it is also a great time for deep-sea fishing. Hurricanes do occur on occasion, mostly in late summer or early fall, on average hitting the Daytona Beach area less than once a quarter century. Make Daytona Beach your favorite fall getaway. You'll be glad you did.
